SYNOPSIS OF OUR SERVICES
The Family Support Network promotes the advocacy, education, and empowerment or parents and their families. Its major purpose is to strengthen families by bringing together parents with similiar interests and needs, who partner with family workers from social service agencies and community organiziations. The family workers provide them with information on the latest innovations in child developments, effective parenting, as well as ongoing peer support and support groups.
The Child and Adult Care Food Program provides supportive services to over 220 family day care homes. The program provides meal reimbursement, in home technical assistance, nutrition education and provider training classes. Healing Our Nation, one Heart at a Time Workshop SeriesThe United States' peace, prosperity, and even her standing in the international community depend on healing the wounds of racism and building a society in which people of diverse backgrounds live as members of one family. Healing Our Naion workshops are an educational and experiential program designed to recognize racism, to gain understanding of each other's struggles and to ultimately take effective action to dismantle the racism that is plaguing our society's economic and political institutions. Creating Strong Families (CSF)Creating Strong Families (CSF) is a substance abuse prevention program developed through a collaborative partnership between the Delaware Prevention Network, City of Dover, Delaware Parents Association and community-based/grassroots organizations. The program focuses on the strengths of high-risk youth and their families and is designed to reduce the frequency of alcohol, tobacco and other drug use among high-risk youths, age 9-17, through strengthening family resilience. The uniqueness of this progam is in the holistic approach to families, which includes the parents and young adults participation in the classes and events. Get Smart-Don't Start Tobacco Prevention The "Get Smart-Don't Start" Program works with youth in grades K-6th. Youth learn about Tobacco Prevention issues through role-play, art, music videos, books, computer software and discussions. Currently, we are working with youth in third and fourth grade in the Capital School District, Dover, Delaware. Separating and Divorcing/Domestic Violence Parent Education Programs Delaware Parents is certified to provide Separating/Divorcing
Parenting and Domestic Violence Basic Education Classes that meet twice
a month (weekday and Saturdays). The classes have assisted parents in
rebuilding the parent-child relationships that may occur after separation/divorce
and domestic violence. Parents are provided with the tools to meet their
child's emotional needs and understand the critical need to develop a
parenting approach that is positive and non-blaming after the family structure
has changed.
